Grow Wheatgrass

how to grow WheatgrassSpring is officially here!
I mean, it was 90 degrees today in Texas. What?  I guess the groundhog was right.
Spring came early. And so I’ve been rushing to get this new video out to you guys, because it just screams Spring time!

And it’s something I’ve been dying to share with you for a year now, ever since my friend Katherine showed me how simple it was….

simple way to grow WheatgrassAll you need is a little bit of wheat (I purchased mine here)…to turn it into Wheatgrass!
It’s so much fun to watch, for the whole family.

how to easily grow wheatgrassMy kids love it when I start growing grass, so they can see the progress happening each day.
And in just a week, you have darling springtime grass.
Which looks so cute all bushy in a large container.

Oh I love this idea it’s so cute! I’m gonna check my local co-op for some wheat.

    • 2) Dana

You only need about 1 or 2 cups of it. It’s so fun to watch the growing happen!

  2. 3) Michelly

Those look great! Just a curious question though. Who films these videos?

    • 4) Dana

      Thanks!
We have a production crew that films and edits for us. Makes the process a whole lot easier! 🙂

Hey this is such a fun project, I’ve done it years ago and it was great for Easter! One thing about the wheat though, it doesn’t go bad but it does get old and eventually won’t sprout if it’s old and stored in heat. I had some wheat that didn’t sprout it just grew mold. Dumped it out and tried again. Mold. Finally bought a bag at the health food store and it sprouted because it was new and fresh!

Can’t wait to do this project with my granddaughters in a few weeks for a sleepover. I may have to do one before then. Thanks for the idea. I like your new website. Nice!

I did this last year, but it was way easier this year by skipping the germinating step. So thanks for that great tip! It is coming up very nicely…and quickly! I also love the idea about putting it in fun dishes. We’ve got it growing in a ceramic Easter egg and an egg-shaped plate.

      Awesome! That’s fantastic!

Dana – I have to know where you got that big yellow and white striped bowl that you place on the counter at the end? Pretty please?

    • 10) Dana

IKEA! Go get it! It was like $10 or something ridiculously cheap 🙂

  7. 11) Amy @ My Name Is Snickerdoodle

This was my first time trying anything like this and now I am obsessed! I made a bunch of bowls for Easter and keeping them all around for spring time decor. Thanks so much!

Your pic is so adorable! I’m really glad you like it. I agree….totally addictive. I had 10 bowls going at my house! 🙂

Suuuuper cute! I am extremely deficient in gardening knowledge, so I’m embarrassed to ask, but– will these grow forever? Or wilt? Do they need “haircuts”?

    • 14) Dana

Well, it won’t last “forever” for probably for a few weeks….
I noticed that mine starts to turn a little yellowish after that and gets wilty.
You want to continue to water it periodically, just as you would with normal houseplants. And when you notice it looking “sad” then it’s probably time to chuck it.
      Have fun!
