One of my favorite things about blogging is making connections with people who have similar interests to me all over the world. I know I’ve said it before but it’s truly amazing that I can meet a sewing mom in Denmark or Malaysia or South Africa and become friends with her. Though I might never meet her in person, somehow we’ve found find each other through these funny online neighborhoods. It’s the modern day penpal! And I love it!
So to help celebrate, today’s guest is from across the world (from me that is; perhaps not from you!). Nelly is an artistic mom who lives in Germany and has a beautiful blog called: Fraufertig.
Everything she makes has a modern twist and her photos are all just, lovely.
She has a slew of great tutorials for kids and moms….
And though her blog is in German (I’m sure you can find a way to translate it online), there are many international blogs I check, mostly just for the photos! Fraufertig will give you plenty of eyecandy and fun ideas. And if you’re not a sewer/crafter, she has an online shop too!
Today Nelly’s created a cool twist on the BOY celebration. She has a unique art piece that can easily be done by any skill level (in fact maybe you made one once when you were a kid?! I’m having faint memories…) And she’s written the steps out in English as well. Thank you Nelly!
So let’s hear from her……

My name is Nelly. I´m 31 years old, married, mother of a two year old son and I live in Cologne, Germany. My life has always been about art and creativity in every imaginable way. I got my first sewing machine when I was 14 years old. It was a simple machine and we bought it second hand, but I loved it. Years later, during my art studies, I replaced the sewing machine for a canvas and a paint brush. But when my son was born I rediscovered the joy of creating toys, clothes and beautiful bits and pieces for him. Every time he comes up smiling with something new for him, saying “mom made for Paul” it makes me happy and I keep on going.
Today I’ve created an interesting art piece or…Thread Art:
Big or small, names or numbers, letters or pictures, this project is very easy to make. You only need a few materials but the project offers an endless range of designs to decorate and personalize a boy`s room. The finished board can be hung up on the wall or arranged on a sideboard or shelf. Surely it’s a modern looking eye catcher.
You’ll find the complete Thread Art tutorial HERE on Fraufertig.
Nelly thank you for sharing your artistic talents and joining our BOY month! I’m so happy to have found your blog and will heading back overseas for more!
