Some people have an obsession with printed cotton fabrics. Others can’t say no to a cool skein of yarn. When I hit the fabric store, my flavor usually comes out something like this. Solids, stripes, dots and textures:
It’s not that I don’t love cottons with beautiful prints and designs. I have plenty of those as well. But I enjoy the artistic challenge of making things look interesting by using simple fabrics, combining them, creating a pattern from the fabric itself. This skirt from Katie Did has always inspired me to do that (of course anything Katie makes is amazingly cool and interesting. Browse her archives if you’re stopping by for the first time).
So….
While we were in LA last month, I made a very quick stop at the LA Fabric District, hitting up my favorite spots and exhibiting self-control (report: we did not need to bring home an extra bag home on our return flight this time!)
I’m not sure what these will all become but we’ve got solid jersey knit, jersey stripes, and polka dot flannel:
Plenty of ribbing (cause they were only $3/yard, compared to $8 at Joanns!)
Yellow lycra, teal gauze, and cottons too. Oh pretty fabrics….what is your fate? Yep, I’m 33 and just got back from the candy shop.
Okay, have a great weekend.
And stay tuned next week. I have some of my own things, plus some sponsored items to giveaway. AND….a new tutorial!
Talk to you soon.
