Who wears the pants in the house?

It’s hard to know sometimes.

But it’s fun that the lines between boy and girl fashions are a bit blurred these days.  Although maybe it’s always been that way.  Remember those baby pics of your great grandfather where he’s wearing a dress?  Or how about my great gramps in his Little Lord Fauntleroy suit?  Owen would have hated that stuffy velvet.

But maybe velvet’s back in too!  Today it’s okay for a boy to be bold, to wear bold colors, even pink?, skinny pants, and to just be himself. Whatever self that might be.  And I love this photo (below, from the CTB Flickr group) by Mamasha because it pretty much sums up things around our house….one boy sandwiched in the middle of two girls, trying to be boyish, but loving the baby buggy, and likely filling it up with Star Wars toys so they can cruise around in a floral Millenium Falcon.

So who wears the pants in your house?  And what kind of pants are they wearing?
I browsed the Celebrate the BOY Flickr group to see what you guys are making and holy cow you’ve got mad skills.  Really cool stuff!

LEFT: Achter pants by spiegel aan de wand with awesome pin tucks like Rae shared yesterday!
MIDDLE: Skinny Knee Pad pants by Mama Says Sew
RIGHT: Denim pants by Oddwise

TOP: Shorts for Nils by Mamasha (her site is really, really fabulous) • Cameron Pants by Skirt as Top
BOTTOM: Spots and Stripes pants by Max California • Red Cords by Running with Scissors

If you ever need a BOY pick-me-up….stop by Oon! and plan to stay for an hour.  She’s doing the coolest stuff and with wonderful colors:

TOP: Pillowcase pjs (genius!) by Elsie Marley • Ferris Bueller pants by A Little Gray
BOTTOM: Sailboat Shorts by Skirt as Top • Skinny Cords by Craft Storming

And how cool is this cat?  It’s Max California’s signature look for Vincent.

It looks pretty freaking fun to be a BOY.

Thanks for sharing your creations in the Flickr group!  I’d love to do a roundup of Basic Tees before the end of our Celebration, so please share your pics after you make one!

And check out Made by Rae’s roundup post HERE.

  1. My son (3) has taken a fondness to skirts like his big sister and myself. Last summer when his sister stopped sharing her own I sewed him his own. His choice of fabric was a retro dinosaur and he rocked the look. He also loves his kilt.

  2. so many great sites! we try not to gender bias, but with all boys in the house its easy to stick to “boy” things.

  3. Glad to see lots of Belgian creations here 🙂

  4. Wow, you really picked out a lot of Belgian sites! 🙂 But you’re right: these are really cool!

  5. Oh my gosh, I slept on pillow cases just like those! We had pink, green and yes that great orange. Thanks for the memories. Now if my Mom still has those I’ll sew up some PJ’s!

  6. 7) Jackie

Adorable. Can’t wait to get back to work so I can search online at all of those fun ideas for boys you posted. Awesome.

  7. 9) carolina

I really love Oon, first time I found it I was looking for more than an hour. ;P

  8. Aw thanks for the features, Dana! Woohoo for fun colors/prints on boys and for bringing Belgian style to the US! Poor boys have always had such boring options in the past, I’m excited to see slimmer legs, brighter colors, etc becoming more acceptable. I predict it’s not just a fad, either. 😉

  9. Thumbs up for the Belgians! We may be a small country, but we have some amazing sewing talent!

  10. 13) Fenna

That pants pattern that Oon used that is by Mamasha is absolutely lovely! I think I need to buy that!

  11. I love these so much!! SO many fun pant options. Great roundup Dana!!

  12. Thanks for your kind words, Dana.

  13. 16) Petra

Wow! They are all sooo funky! I wish my son would wear that kind of stuff – he only likes soft sweatshirt material and elastic waists – so hard to find (and I’m not a good sewer)!

  14. I can’t believe it’s Tuesday night and I don’t have anything up yet. I’m totally bummed. I made my big pajama pants yesterday but didn’t have time to take pictures today. That’s always the hardest part for me. Tomorrow. Definitely tomorrow.

  15. 19) Kelly

Good heavens! I excitedly waited for “Celebrate the Boy” last week and just remembered now! Thank you both again- I have just three boys.

  16. I love all the fun boy things like this…and then there is my husband who is like “can’t he just wear normal jeans??” Turns out I am the only one who loves his mustard yellow cords and dusty red slacks! He’s 2 and rocks them!

  17. Thanks for the mention Dana 🙂 So much great inspiration here!

  18. Very nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wished to say that
I have truly enjoyed surfing around your blog posts. After all I’ll be subscribing to your rss feed and I hope you write again very soon!

  19. Hi, I think your website might be having browser compatibility issues.

When I look at your website in Ie, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it
has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads
up! Other then that, great blog!
