Living in Texas: our own Friday night lights

It’s September.
We live in Texas.
You know what that means?
Time for some football!Specifically high school ball, aka: Friday night lights.

When we moved to Austin 2 years ago we were really excited to experience this TX phenomenon….especially since we’re devout fans of the TV series Friday Night Lights–which btw is (was) the best show on television. If you haven’t seen it, stop whatever you were planning to do tonight–unless you’re going to a game–and stream it on netflix. You don’t even have to like football to like the show. I still get teary-eyed thinking of the episode where Smash stops by coach Taylor’s house to tell him he got into college, his bags are packed, and he’s on his way. The characters are real, inspiring, brilliant!
RIP Friday Night Lights. I keep hoping they’ll do a spin-off “college years”.
Hoping.

Anyway.
We’re hours from West Texas where the show takes place (though it was shot here in Austin and we often drive by landmarks that you see in the show opener. Makes us smile). But football is still a big deal here and we love to support our local team.
Tonight is our first game! I can sort of predict how the night will go….
I’ll have to remind Lucy what a football game is (she’ll probably call it baseball).
But she’ll quickly catch on, remembering the “dancing girls” and loud band music.
Owen will enjoy the game excitement too but mostly…..
he’ll be focused on this:
Of course we’re all along for the treats.
The highlight of any sporting event right?
(I never grow tired of this little profile):
(and the back of this head):
And in case you forgot,
were’ still in Texas.

Bring on the lights!

Love the pictures! I live in Central Texas also (my son played on that field for Copperas Cove) and my daughters danced on that field (drill team). I too LOVE Friday night lights. Did you know that Varsity Blues was filmed in that stadium? Love looking at your pics!! Pam
