Last weekend I went to a baby shower for friend who’s having….a newborn AND a toddler!
Our friends were having trouble getting pregnant, so they started the adoption process and were blessed with a 2 year old little girl. Then a few months before they picked her up, my friend found out she was pregnant! Life is mysterious sometimes. I’m sure you’ve had friends in a similar circle of life. So, this shower was for her baby boy who’s coming in a month and their daughter who’s already part of their family. Bring on the baby gift fun!
My favorite newborn gift to give is: personalized onesies and comfy pants. I’m one of those moms that really only dresses my babes in comfortable clothes for the first few months (as in, not many dresses, shoes, or mini-jeans, etc).
So I took two of my dyed onesies and freezer papered them with something that was soooo her….
DISNEY.
She is a die-hard fan.
I kept the images simple, with classic character faces. To find good Freezer Paper stenciling images, I typically do a google image search, as “coloring pages”. All sorts of great black and white images pop up. For these ones I simply searched for images (not coloring pages, since the coloring pages were too modern). I searched under classic mickey face and disney original goofy.
As I painted the goofy image in navy on the orange onesie, the colors immediately reminded me of tomorrowland. And then I wished I had done some really cool retro poster image like these. But oh well, the faces were certainly a lot easier to cut out!
Okay, pants.
I’ve had these two Old Navy clearance shirts for years; just waiting for the right project. The shirts are lined with an extra layer of knit so they’re perfect for winter.
I used an old pair of Owen’s baby pants as my pattern/guide and voila! Two cozy cute pants.
The best part about making pants from a men’s shirt, is that you use the hem of the shirt for the hem of your pants. Easy! And it’s fun to plaster my name across the back there. Sorry Judy. If you hate the label, just pick it off.
The pants may be a little Cat In the Hat-ish but when you pair them up with the onsies, they’re so much fun! And very Disney.
Of course I threw a pacifier clip in there too. And the baby boy gift was done.
For her little girl, we gave her the Summer Vacation Dress! Lucy only wore this for the photos and you know how it is….when you love to sew little girl’s dresses, do you really need 20 of them? Maybe.
But I know Mallory will look darling in Navy blue with yellow trim.
I also gave her a couple pairs of jeans that Lucy’s outgrown. One pair was never worn.
I once went to a recycled baby shower for a friend and it was so cool. We all brought clothing and gear that our babes had outgrown and recycled them to the new mom. It was fun to go through all of Lucy’s old clothing and pick a few favorites for another little one to enjoy.
In the pocket I tucked a felt hairclip. I need to make more of these now that Lucy’s hair is short again.
I wrapped them both up using T-shirt scraps for ribbon,
and added a Valentine’s Day card, since it matched. Hearts are in season any time of the year, right?
And there you have it! A very Disney gift for a very Disney family. Welcome to Texas little ones!
