Sewing for Emory

A customer asked me to make a monogrammed skirt for her 7-year-old daughter Emory, out of this great Amy Butler fabric:
So I made a simple gathered, tiered skirt.
It needed some extra fringe so I made this and sewed it on top of the seams (double-layered, 1/2 inch wide cotton fabric, gathered in the middle and left with raw edges so it will fray as it’s washed) :
She wanted an “e” on the skirt like the ones I’ve made for my Lucy. But when all was said and done, it felt overboard to add a letter to the skirt. So….I made a personalized purse/bag instead. What 7-year old wouldn’t like a girly tote?
And every bag needs a pocket for lipgloss, hairclips, and candy of course:
The “e” was made in similar fashion to my Christmas ornaments. And I used more of the fringe above to make it feel girly. Kind of reminds me of a contest ribbon from the school science fair.
Enjoy your new treasures little Emory.
(and p.s….a similar skirt tutorial is in the works!)
