4 months

I missed it by a couple weeks but this little girl is 4 months old.
4 months!
And I’m so in love with her.

Not that I didn’t love my other children when they were babies too. But the timing with Clara is a little different.

Lucy was the first child and I’m sure I was anxious for her to sit up, crawl, walk, talk…you know, do stuff.  I kinda wanted her to get out of that “baby” stage.  Then when I had Owen (cough) 21 months later life was pretty crazy for a while….and Owen was a more needy baby….so I didn’t enjoy that first year like I could have.  Granted, now I LOVE that my kids are 21 months apart.   I see the benefits since they are perfect playmates and honestly best friends.  I just smile watching them play.

But now with Clara….the other two kids are older (4 and 6) and I’m really just enjoying her.

She is an absolute dream and such a sweetheart.  She drools everywhere (not so dreamy), sleeps 11 hours at night, smiles and smiles, and just chills in her carseat when we’re driving.

I can not get enough of those chubby cheeks!  I’ve never had a baby with so many rolls and I’m lovin it.  She’s smothered in kisses all day long from me and Lucy.

What I love most about her right now….

Those gummy smiles and coos,

that her feet still fold in together, like she’s clapping,

and that she can finally fit her little H&M sweater dress!
Don’t grow out of it little lady.

Here’s the 4 month comparison:

We’re blessed to have such a happy girl.

1 YEAR OLD!

  1. Four months is such a fun stage. They are alert, happy, playful, but can’t make too many messes yet! She is so lucky to have you and your family.

  2. She´s so cool. Those pictures can tell that she is a satisfied little sweetie.

  3. oh she is so cute! and I totally understand about enjoying the baby stage this time around for you. She looks so happy just to hang out. I think she looks more and more like owen for some reason. 🙂 have fun on your trip!

  4. She is such a pretty girl! Enjoy these baby days! Happy 4 months to Clara!

    – Katie Fleming

  5. She is beautiful!!! I’m glad to hear that with your first-born you too kind of “wanted her to get out of the baby stage.” I’ve loved my little boy (11 months now!) since he was born but I have to admit, I think being his Mama gets more and more fun the older he gets! Thank you so much for your beautiful blog! I’m finally getting a sewing machine when we move to India next month and I’ve got so many of your projects and posts bookmarked for when I finally get to start sewing/crafting again!

  6. I’ve told you before how cute I think she is but she just keeps getting cuter! She just looks like such a happy baby! I love those little feet! I know what you mean about life being hectic with little ones so close together. My twin girls were 3 years old when I had my twin boys. Having 4 kiddos ages 3 and under was a “little” crazy for a while! Now that my girls are 6 and my boys are 3 I think maybe one more. Then I come to my senses because I would probably have triplets this time around! 🙂 Have fun on your road trip!

  7. Oh my goodness Dana – she is so adorable! Congratulations on having such a wonderful and happy (and sleeping!!!) baby! Third times the charm 🙂

  8. I totally know how you feel!!! My little girl is 6 months now and I’m in no hurry to reach the milestones like I was with my son (who’s almost 3) – I wish I could slow down the time!!!

  9. 10) cheryl

i love comparing the photos from month one to now. wow!!! what an awesome little adventure!!

  10. There is just something so special about the 3rd, not that the first 2 aren’t special of course!! My second (16.5months after the first, eep!) was a very intense baby. 2 years later my 3rd pregnancy (twins), it’s just so different. I don’t know if it’s an age thing, a confidence thing, the deep seated knowledge of just how fleeting this time is. I just find myself soaking it all up, delighting in every little thing. Blink and they’re almost, oh so fast.

  11. 12) Meredith

I have 3 as well and there is just something unusually delightful about the 3rd. I feel they are a “bonus” or an “extra” little gift. So many people stop after they have a girl and a boy so to add one more is just a bonus! I have a 9 year old boy, a 5 year old girl, and a 3 year old boy.

  12. Such a sweetie! I have had basically the same experience with my 3 littles, and I definitely agree with you!

  13. She’s such a beautie! And I absolutely agree with you on the “growing-too-fast” part. I’m feeling the same way about my 2nd child, a little boy aged 1 now, and who’s already running around like a real little boy, the baby-stage being definitely over. Having started working fulltime when he was still very small, I feel like I gave birth to him and breastfed him every two hours only yesterday, and all of a sudden he’s eating chicken wings and if he could talk, he would actually say : “What the heck do you want me to do with that veggie puree??? I want MEAT!!” and “I can do it on my own, just gimme the spoon!” Oh yes, definitely no baby anymore….

  14. oh those cheeks are so cute!!!!! i love baby rolls, my son was a skinny baby and when i see a chubby baby, like my nephew, i love to kiss that chub. She is just so cute!!!

  15. oh, I understand about not being able to take it easy when your kids are so close– I”m glad that you are enjoying the baby stage right now! gives me hope! 🙂

  16. 18) Ag

photo number six, the one with the mouth open: she looks just like lucy!!!!! it’s funny how quickly those expression look-alikes happen!!!

  17. My boy is 3 1/2 months and I’m also truly in love with his smile. Congratulations on your lovely baby girl!

  18. Oh Dana. She is seriously such a doll…and what a good baby! I hope our babies get to meet each other one day!

  19. Dana, she could not be cuter! Nope, wouldn’t be possible! And I hear you on appreciating your children in different ways. My first was a difficult to soothe baby and I just wanted time to pass so that she would grow out of that phase (and hopefully sleep a little more). And now we have baby #2 and knowing that this is most likely our last makes me appreciate every little bit.

  20. Hello Dana! Congratulations for the 4 months of your little baby. I’m following your blog since you were still pregnant and I’ve been watching your baby growing month by month.
I have two little boys, and as you said I’m enjoying more my second one, he’s 15 months old now and the other one 4 years old. I think the second one is growing without the same extremely attentions than the other, so I think what it would be if I had a third! Maybe in a couple of years….we’ll be looking for the girl….
I love your blog and all your tips, I think they’re very useful!
    Kisses from Valencia (Spain).

  21. 23) sabrina

You sure are blessed! & what a gift you’ve given yourself – the monthly check in! You’ll have a whole album you can just print off your blog! perfect!

  22. 24) brooke

I love these updates. Admittedly I love them mostly cause I have a four month old baby girl born in February and she has been going through some of the same milestones. And it’s just so darn sweet to experience this baby ooey gooey phase. Thanks for sharing!

  23. I love her cheeks! My babe is 10 months and has those sweet cheeks, just made for kisses. I enjoy your blog, fabulous ideas, yummy recipes, and sneak peeks into your family, thanks!

  24. She is so cute! My brother and I are 22 months apart, he is older, and we have always been playmates, even 32 years later he is still my best friend! So there is something to be said for the craziness you (and my mom) had to endure that first year after the second one was born! Congrats on a beautiful family.

  25. 27) bdaiss

I have always loved the yoga feet. She is a doll – try not to eat her up! : )

  26. 28) Gage

wow that is one cute baby!!

  27. Oh my word, she’s adorable! I can’t help but smile at all the photos. My first two were 21 months apart too, and then my third was almost three years later, so I can relate! I think too that by the third baby we come to terms with the fact that we’re not in control in any way, and relax more!

  28. I really enjoyed reading this post because I totally recognized it. My baby boy is my third child, there is 4.5 years between him and my youngest daughter. He turned 1 last week and I have loved every minute of the last year with him. My experience with the 2 daughters is just like you described with your boy and girl. And although there is a 2.5 year gap between my girls they also love to play together, and they adore their little brother. He is such a sweet, little, chubby gift!
Enjoy your sweet little girl, she really is adorable!

  29. I am not usually a commenter, but Oh. My. God. She is ridiculously cute! Makes me think twice about the possibility of another baby down the line. The adoptions of our first two went so smooth that it’s tempting… I can also totally relate about baby number two’s personality being a little more challenging. I keep thinking we’re going to pull out of that stage any day now… 🙂

  30. 34) Shannon

My kids are spaced almost the same as yours, and I completely understand what you are saying in terms of enjoying #3 in a way that you couldn’t for the “big kids” as I like to refer to them. My #3 is now 3 1/2, and I’m dying and joyful with each passing month.
I love your photos and hearing the joy in your words!

  31. WOW, she is adorable!! I don’t blame you for being completely besotted with her. I just found your blog today and I adore it, keep up the amazing work! Beautiful kids too 😀 Naomi (from Olive&Vince toddler clothing)

  32. 36) Connie Sanders

She is so adorable! My baby is just a few weeks younger then Clara and she is chubbier then my other two were. I love the rolls too! Hey, and my first two are only 18 months apart! 🙂

  33. 37) Sara

She is absolutely gorgeous. Making me want a 3rd…..

  34. 38) Shantel

My 3 are all exactly 2 years apart (my first 2 actually share the same birthday) and I felt like I was in a mad rush most of the time too. My last one even though he is 2 years apart from my 2nd I still have relished every milestone and loved every minute of it, maybe because I’m not sure we’ll have more so I enjoy him all the more!

  35. That sweater dress!! Oh my goodness! How I wish H&M wasn’t 4 hours away.

  36. She is so sweet! I have felt that same exact way with my 3rd–just enjoying her! It really goes by too quickly!

  37. 41) berry

Dana, she is so heavenly! I am actually printing out her 4 month photo to send to my 10 year old daughter at camp…at her request! When I am reading your blog she looks over my shoulder to see “that really cute baby”. How funny is that?

I cherished the baby and toddler moments with my third, knowing he’d probably be our last. We still call him “the baby” (his siblings included) and he’s 7. Enjoy every precious moment.

  38. She sure seems happy in her family. I think she approves.

  39. I love the month by month pictures. She’s getting cuter with every passing month! Love that little dress too.

  40. She does look a very happy baby…knock on the wood!

  41. shes a cutie. looks like at 4 months she grew into those 3 month cheeks a bit more 🙂

  42. I love her rolls! My baby is a month younger and he’s pretty chunky too, I can’t get enough of the chub!
I’m glad to hear she’s been such a happy baby.

  43. 47) Leigh Anne

4-6 mos is my FAVE! They aren’t mobile yet, but have passed from the newborn stage. They are content just to chill & look around. She is a doll! Lovin’ the chubs too!

  44. 48) Amber M

She is just adorable! I can see why she gets kissed all day long 🙂 Such a cute age. I’m expecting #3 and looking forward to all the fun baby stages again. I definitely want to do a monthly picture as well…so fun to see them change.

  45. 49) bianca rollins

    What a muffin!

  46. I have to agree that I love having kiddos 21 months apart too (although the baby stage, which we’ve only recently totally emerged from, was definitely tough). I’m loving following you along and imagining what it would be like to add a 3rd when my kiddos reach 4 and 6.

  47. She is sooo adorable! I really appreciated this post…I’m expecting my 3rd in a few months and my kiddos will be about the exact same spacing/ages as yours are now. My older two are the best of friends, and my experiences with them as babies was so much like you describe. Anyway, I’m so looking forward to taking it all in with this new babe. Thanks for sharing. : )

  48. Oh my goodness she couldn’t get any cuter!
Thanks for sharing her growth. It all goes so quickly.
I wish I would have done that for my girls!
    ~Michelle

  49. 54) bel

What a blessing, Dana! I love reading your updates!
Thanks for sharing your joys with us!

  50. 55) Njeri

I just want to eat her up.

  51. 56) Ali B

So cute! You’re right, 3rd children are so special. My baby boy is my 3rd and I can’t get enough of him! I’ve got 23 months between my girls and 19 months between my middle one and baby boy so the last few years have been manic! Finally slowing down and I’m able to really enjoy them all as little people. Enjoy your number 3 cutie!

  52. 57) iHeartQuilting

She looks so cute in that color orange!

  53. 58) Vianely

Wao! I’m amazed with this little precious! Dios la bendiga mucho!!!

  54. 59) Rosie T

boy, do I ever know EXACTLY what you’re talking about. 🙂 I’ve got almost 5, 3 and a 6 month old and I’m so enjoying the babyness this time around, without anxiously rushing to thenext phase… wish I could say the same for the baby! She seems to be doing everything faster than her siblings did!

    Clara is beautiful. 🙂

  55. 60) Mary

She’s so cute and smiley. Can’t wait too meet my new baby daughter in about 8 weeks. Haven’t had a little girl for about 9 1/2 years. This will be my 9th child and my 3rd daughter.

  56. 61) Rachael

Thank you for this post. It made me feel good. I am pregnant with my fourth child. I did not think that I would have anymore. My twin daughters are 8 and my son is 6. The sentiments you expressed are thoughts that I have been thinking.

    Your children are adorable.

  57. 62) April

She seems to be a happy baby. She so beautiful!

  58. she’s so adorable! love that chubbiness. i hope you’re bringing her with you!

  59. 64) Angela

She is so adorable. My 3rd was so enjoyable. I have a 5 year space between #2 & #3 and I loved having a baby again. He was very much adored at our house.

  60. The third one must be the charm! I think our third is our easiest–though now that she is 22 months she is trying to act like her six year old sister, which has it’s challenges!

  61. 66) Suzi

OH MY GOSH, DANA! She is too precious for words! I just want to smush her little cheeks and give her big kisses. It’s so fun watching her grow up!

  62. 67) Zsoka

Dana, your baby so sweet and adorable!!

ps: as I know you should sit the baby down when she is able to sit by herself 😉

  63. You kiddie is the most cute I have seen since my own!
You have a good eye for a photo.. or else an extremely good camera.
I could eat her all up!
Discovered you web site only today following a hunt for nappy covers… I love that the ones you have here seem so easy and can’t wait to have a go this weekend. It seems all the ladies I work with are expectant Grandmothers and these are one of few baby items you can make that are very unisex, along with your fab pants too.
VERY impressed with lovely web site, easy instructions and funky designs.
    Thank you so much

Ps – would it be easy to make a trilby type hat in fabric
I am somewhat of a beginner but love sewing. Would love to make for my brother – he is addicted to trilbys ( and I know they are of a stiff hat material but just wondered if there was something to be bought or done in order to make sewing them up possible?

  64. My 3rd baby is now almost 3 weeks old, and this is exactly how I feel. I didn’t get a chance to really enjoy my other babies, what with figuring out how to be a mom and all that. So I am just loving this tiny snuggly baby phase. 🙂

  65. 71) Kendra

Oh my goodness, she is so adorable! And she has changed so much in 4 months. I forgot how quickly those little ones change.

My children have the exact same age difference as yours (though all mine are a year older than yours) and you described exactly how I felt as a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd time mom. To a “T”! I am taking in as much of the “baby stage” as I can with my little one, knowing she’s the last 🙂

I know this is mostly a craft/sewing blog, but I LOVE when you post about your life and your kids. They are adorable and your photos are simply inspiring. Thank you for doing what you do 🙂

  66. 72) Arianna

    really wonderful .. all mom

  67. Adorable! I’m due with my first (a baby girl) in a week! Can’t wait to have my own little chubby cheeks to kiss!

  68. I feel exactly the same with my own kids (ages 9,7, and 3). I appreciate everything so much more with the third…every little thing he does is adorable, even picking his nose! Great pictures!

  69. What a doll! Four months is so fun! I have a 3 1/2 year old (girl) one that just turned 2 (boy) and a 5 month old (boy). I am really trying to enjoy the baby stage of my little one. Being a parent is awesome and the most challenging thing all in one. Here’s to enjoying that first year.

  70. Votre petite a bien grandi!! elle est magnifique!! bonne journée!!

  71. She is so gorgeous! And looks so much like her brother and sister!

I am jealous that she sleeps so well. My 15 month old (3rd child) has only just started sleeping that long and then he caught a bad cold, so he stopped again.

My first two are 27 months apart, so not quite as close, but I know what you mean about being able to enjoy #3 more. I love how my older 2 play together too. 🙂

P.S. My daughter is 7 years old today and she’s wearing a circle skirt (and matching appliqued T-shirt) I made her from your tutorial. 😀 Will have to send you a picture.

  72. 78) Michele

She’s cuter every single day! Thank you for keeping up the amazing tutorials. I love the boxed tote bags and can’t wait to make them with my girls.

  73. she’s so scumptious… and those eyes…

  74. She is totally your mini-me!!!!! Such a cutie, and she looks just like her Mommy!

  75. 82) sorahart

    You make cute ones. 🙂

  76. 83) connie drye

what a precious and most beautiful little girl. God is good!

  77. You know, I read this post last week when it came out, but I can’t help but smile when I see this (stopping over to re-read a tutorial) 🙂 She is a beauty! of course, all your kids are 🙂

  78. 85) DAI TEWIATA

i visit your blog regularly and it has been lovely to view the photos you post of your little girl. she is gorgeous and its easy to see why you spend all day smothering those fat little cheeks with kisses

  79. 86) Kate

I’ve said it before but SHE is the most adorable baby!! she is truly gorgeous… 🙂

  80. Adorbsible. do I say that every month? I hope so!!!

  81. Dana, what a blessing! She is absolutely adorable! I would want to cuddle and kiss her all day!

  82. OMG I love your daughters 3 month picture. The cutest hair do ever! I also love your blog. I’m a first time momma to an almost 6 month boy and I’m tn the process of trying out the 90 minute shirt tutorial… that is when i have a free minute. I’ve started a new mom blog. you can check it out at http://www.raisinghayden.com

  83. 90) Mary

So I just recently found your blog when googling little boy shorts. Love the flat front shorts pattern, so much fun and super cute! (I shamely admit I am on my 4th pair….in 4 days). So I decided to read a few of your other posts and saw this one about your baby. I can relate on so many levels! I have 4 kids, with my oldest 2 being 11 and 9, my 3rd is 3 and my CLARA is 5 days shy of 9 months. As you were describing the joy and love with this little one I was shaking my head yes and feeling all those feelings. For me it’s been a true joy experiencing this little life with my 3 oldest, cheering over the milestones together and smothering this little baby with love and kisses.
Thanks for the great blog and super thanks for all the tutorials! My daughters and I have a few skirts we are gearing up to make. Can’t wait!

  84. 91) Sydney

She sure is blossoming! She’s so cute, her cheeks look so snuggleable!

  85. Aw could not agree more with the small age gaps, crazy when they are baby’s but awesome as they grow 🙂 love the photo comparison, she is a doll xx
