I’m leaving, on a jet plane…with my autumn garland

Yesterday I flew out of town, all by myself.

I sort of forgot what that feels like…to be able to pack in just 30 minutes; to sit on the plane and do whatever I want, without pulling kid toys out of a bag. It was pretty nice.

And now I’m in southern California for my cousin Adrian’s wedding….where it’s a sunny 65 degrees. And I’m freezing! I’ve become a Texan.

Before leaving I whipped up a little handmade gift for Adrian and her husband.
It’s hard for me to come up with handmade wedding gifts–compared to making baby gifts–because it’s trickier to gauge someone’s home decor style. So I’ve decided that if want to go handmade, I’ll make them holiday decor! Every new couple needs fun items for their holiday stash. I remember receiving a Christmas plate for our wedding and it’s still part of our collection. So, I went with “Halloween”.

The first part of the gift I’ll share next week, along with a tutorial (sorry to tease).

The second part was a simple Happy Day Garland in Fall colors. It would be really fun to cut out bats and pumpkins, etc. But I stuck with standard shapes so it could be used in November or other times of the year.

Then I threw in a Target gift card (for their practical needs), wrapped it in paper from the Target Dollar section and I was ready to go. I love these $1 wrapping paper rolls btw. They’re the perfect traveling size. For Christmas I throw a few in the suitcase and we’re able to wrap gifts when we arrive at my parent’s house.
Now I’ve got 3 days to hang out with family, take a bunch of wedding photos, stay up late eating treats and chatting with my sisters, and I’ll probably get to work on the blanket too. Finally, I’m on to pink:
That’s my weekend! Hope you have a good one too!
